Theatre in the Dark (TiD) was founded by drama educator Comma Chan with acquired blindness. TiD is committed to build an equal arts platform for people with difference to unleash their talents and contribute to society, while bringing a new form of performing arts to the public with drama in completed darkness.
"Darkness" creates a new artistic experience: actors interact with audience in a completely darkness, using sensory elements such as hearing, smell, touch and taste to advance the plot and enjoy an alternative "non-visual" experience. The team includes people with different disabilities, such as visual impaired, hearing impaired, physical disabled, autism, with mild intellectual disability, etc. TiD believes that through the inclusive theatre, members can find more possibilities for themselves and earn dignified remuneration.
TiD has hosted more than 500 school performances in the past. In 2024, TiD was commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Festival to perform the show "An Essential Guide To A Blindfolded Journey" at Tai Kwun.
