Based in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Happy Ageing Lab is envisioned as a Lab of academics, design and health professionals, innovating housing solutions for an ageing population to promote (i) ageing-in-place, (ii) healthy ageing, and (iii) intergenerational living. To address the diversity among our seniors, the Lab targets to expand the housing choices available in the private/quasi-private market by developing implementable, innovative housing prototypes through research, knowledge exchange and industry engagement.
Products and Services
Happy Ageing Lab pushes the boundary of mainstream design by introducing different models of service integrated housing (SIH), including (i) lifestyle/recreation-oriented model,(ii) support service ready model, and (iii) care service enabled model, in Hong Kong. To achieve the overarching goal, the Lab's research and networking activities:
i. connect people and ideas to improve the spectrum of housing for seniors to live independently and healthily,
ii. accelerate insight exchange on the latest research and innovative developments in induce practice changes,
iii. engage with developers, service providers, NGOs and government (or quasi-public) bodies to plan, design and deliver innovative housing solutions for an ageing population, and
iv. advocate for policy calibration by developing actionable frameworks and monitoring the diversification of suitable housing types for seniors.
