YMCA of Hong Kong Community Shop (referred to as the Community Shop) aims to provide support and development opportunities for low-income women and elderly individuals in the Cheung Sha Wan area through social services and a sustainable business operation model, helping them integrate into the community. In continuously practicing its principles, the Community Shop has developed four main directions: (1) providing employment opportunities and vocational training experiences; (2) supporting basic living needs; (3) promoting personal physical, mental, spiritual, and skills development; and (4) creating platforms to facilitate community integration. In response to the impact of ongoing changes in the community on low-income women and elderly individuals, the Community Shop is committed to enhancing the quality and variety of its services to meet local needs, providing ongoing support and development opportunities for residents and serving the community.

Products and Services

The YMCA of Hong Kong Community Shop continually develops various services to meet the needs of low-income women and the elderly in the area, including: (1) Hiring unemployed residents in the area as short-term employees: This provides vocational training and enhances work experience, increasing their competitiveness in the job market and reducing the economic and psychological impacts of unemployment; (2) Distributing essential living supplies: This helps mitigate the effects of resource scarcity, such as the weekly distribution of free bread and lunch boxes to reduce health issues related to malnutrition caused by economic difficulties. (3) Offering personal skills development activities: These activities aim to enhance individuals' ability to cope with life challenges, such as teaching the elderly exercises to alleviate discomfort caused by physical deterioration. (4) Providing a platform to showcase and sell handmade crafts by low-income women: This promotes their talents within the community and enhances community integration.
